Mayor John Lazar read a proclamation at Tuesday’s Turlock City Council meeting in acknowledgment of the Turlock American Little League 11-year-olds recently winning the title of 2014 All Stars and 2014 District 73 Champions.

Recognizing the Little Leaguers work in gaining the title, Lazar stated, “This has been an exciting, hard-fought, and successful baseball season for this impressive team.”

In the proclamation, the team’s accomplishments are attributed to their dedication, and the team’s coach, Grady Welch had similar things to say about their success.

“These kids worked hard,” said Welch. “I work them two-a-day practices, morning and evening practices to get them prepared for tournament baseball. Not only were they a great group of kids but an outstanding group of families as well, and we did represent Turlock well and we represented our program very well and I’m very proud of these young kids.”

Seven of the 13 children on the roster were present at the meeting with banner and trophy in tow. The group posed for pictures, but many of the little players were rather stoic — perhaps a result of the the toughness they had developed on the baseball field.

“Our City is proud of the recognition the Turlock American Little League 11-year-olds have earned and the fine publicity they have brought to our community by their good sportsmanship and inspired team play,” Lazar read from the proclamation.

The Turlock American Little League 11-year-olds were honored for their outstanding achievement and commended for their outstanding display of athleticism and sportsmanship.
