The Turlock Express have big plans for the upcoming Professional Arena Soccer League season.

Co-owner and coach Art Pulido reports that the team is waiting on final city approval to expand bleacher seating to hold 800 fans at the Turlock Indoor Soccer Arena, and add a new set of restroom facilities. In addition, marketing efforts have increased with Turlock Poker Room as the lead sponsor for Turlock’s only professional athletic team.

“We are really starting to grow now and we look forward to a great and exciting season,” said Pulido.

The PASL looks to continue its expansion this year as well, welcoming Laredo to its growing list of cities.

Turlock is the smallest city to field a team in the PASL, but Pulido points a recent Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal survey that lists Modesto/Turlock as the 14th best minor league market in the nation. PASL touts teams in cities such as Chicago, Wichita, Ontario, Sacramento, Tulsa, Las Vegas, Dallas, Detroit, Cincinnati, and San Diego.

Pulido says indoor soccer is expected to grow because of its fast-paced, high scoring style of play. On average 12-plus goals are scored per contest.

The field of play measures 170 feet long by 75 feet wide and there are six players on the field at any time, including the goalies. Players can switch into and out of the lineup at any time, like in hockey.

Tickets for this season will be available in the coming weeks for $10 in advance, and $12 at the door. Concessions will be available during the team’s home games.

The Express will hold open tryouts Sept. 2 and 3 at 9 p.m., and Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Turlock Indoor Soccer Arena, 500 S. Center St. The registration fee is $25. The team carries 20 players on its roster.
