The Turlock Fire Department extinguished a fire in a room at the Venice Motel on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews responded to the report of a commercial structure fire at the Venice Motel, located at 1114 N. Golden State Boulevard, after a witness saw smoke coming from one of the rooms, said Battalion Chief Dave Bickle.

Turlock Fire Chief Tim Lohman was in the area and responded to the scene to find smoke coming from the room, said Bickle. Turlock Fire Department responded with four engines and a battalion chief.

Witnesses in the area told fire crews that someone may have pulled a hose through the back and sprayed water in the room.

The fire was extinguished before it spread into the walls and ceiling, said Bickle; the majority of damage was to property in the room.

The cause is under investigation.
