Turlock Gospel Mission Shelter Barbeque Fundraiser

The Lions and Sunrise Christian Church Team Up to Support the Turlock Gospel Mission Shelter for Women and Children – A Chicken Barbeque Fundraiser.

The Turlock Gospel Mission (TGM) has announced that the Turlock 12:10 Lions Club and Sunrise Christian are teaming up to help support this coming winter’s TGM shelter program for women and children.  Lion’s Club member Terry Anderson suggested that the Lions, along with Sunrise Christian Church could host a barbeque chicken drive-thru to help support TGM’s work with women and children during this coming winter.

Jeff Woods, TGM’s Executive Director was quick to take him up on the offer. “We can use all the help we can get this year.  We’re seeing approximately a 25-30% increase in people that use the Mission’s services and it doesn’t appear to be letting up.”

Pastor Tim Guerino, from Sunrise, said, “What a great way for community unity to bring some security to those in need!”

The Lions Club and Sunrise will have a Barbeque Chicken Drive-thru fund raiser on Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 11 to 5 in the afternoon at Sunrise Christian Church.  Sunrise is located at 1000 East Monte Vista Avenue, near Colorado.  Tickets are $8/person and the food is billed as “terrific.”  Contact Terry Anderson at 632-8883/634-0203 or Steve Carouthers at 648-7907 for more information and tickets, available at several Turlock area churches.  Tickets are also available at the drive-thru.

The Turlock Gospel Mission started providing overnight shelter to women and children during the winter of 2008.  This year’s anticipated start date is Sunday, November 14, 2009, continuing through April 3, 2011.  TGM is working with local churches, civic clubs, and private citizens to provide a safe place to stay overnight for women & children in need.  Warm meals, a biblical message of hope and shelter will be provided each night during the coldest part of Turlock’s winter season.

TGM was formed in early 2007 with the Vision of restoring homeless and hurting people in Turlock, offering them spiritual, personal and community resources that will enable them to become fruitful members of society.  TGM receives no local, state or federal funding.  It is totally supported by gifts from the community.
Board Member Lori Mast said, “How great is that; having the Lion’s help us out this winter.  We are very thankful for Terry and his group to help those in need.”  (Contributions can be sent to Turlock Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 1231, Turlock, CA 95381.)
Current TGM Board members are Derik Bakker, Bill Fagan, Chris Kiriakou, Lori Mast, and Pat Shade.
