One local couple made Turlock history Friday night, becoming the first duo to get engaged at the city's new Fields of Ice skating rink.

The rink cleared and Sam Farias got down on one knee at center ice to ask Vanessa Licea for her hand in marriage. News of the unique proposal went viral within minutes, garnering hundreds of likes on Fields of Ice's Facebook page.

The engagement was Fields of Ice's first, coming just less than a month after the rink's Nov. 29 opening.

But proposals are a common sight at many ice rinks, most notably the famed rink at New York City's Rockefeller Center. That rink offers choreographed engagement packages, conducting as many as six engagements a day from October through April.

Oh, and Licea said yes, for those wondering.
