Turlock Man Arrested After Admitting to Raping Relative

Turlock Police Detective Frank Navarro reported that a Turlock man was arrested Thursday for the alleged rape of a family member back in May of 2011.

According to Detective Narvarro, a female victim told police in December of 2011 that she was raped by a family member in her home located on the 1400 block of Lambert Way. The rape occurred in May of 2011.

“The victim did not report the crime right away because she was scared and embarrassed,” said Navarro. “It’s very common in a case like this, when it is a relative.”

Navarro then took the case, contacted the suspect, Miguel Angel Mendoza, 37 of Turlock, and interviewed him in December. Initially Mendoza denied committing the crime.

On Thursday, Navarro said that Mendoza admitted to the alleged raping of his relative during an interview.

Detective Navarro stated that police do not reveal the relation of the victim for identity reasons.

Mendoza was arrested on suspicion of rape and is still in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail. Mendoza’s bail was set at $150,000.
