Oakdale – Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Horseshoe Recreation area on Feb. 19, near Oakdale, where they found a Turlock man shot dead.
The man was identified as Juan Jose Calvillo, 40, of Turlock. Calvillo suffered a fatal gunshot wound, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The three witnesses who found Calvillo arrived at the recreation area with the intention of fishing. Upon walking toward the river, they found Calvillo at roughly 4:30 p.m.
They immediately called 911 and authorities responded. The witnesses said they did not know who the victim was, and it was clear he was deceased when they came across the body.
The Horseshoe Recreation area is located on Orange Blossom Road, just east of Oakdale.
The case is currently under investigation by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Detectives.
