Turlock Police Chief on Medical Leave

Turlock Chief of Police Rob Jackson will miss at least three months of work, due to a medical issue.

Jackson went on medical leave in April for an undisclosed illness. Turlock Support Operations Capt. Steve Williams is serving as Acting Chief of Police in Jackson's absence.

“Chief Jackson intends to return to work, at least in a partial capacity, sometime in July 2013,” Williams said.

Williams has been with the Turlock Police Department since 2001, when he joined as a corporal. He was appointed to captain in June of 2012. Williams is also the assistant chief of the Turlock Rural Fire Department.

Williams will continue to serve as Support Operations Division Captain while he temporarily takes on the duties of interim chief. The Support Operations is one of three divisions of the Turlock Police Department, responsible for police records, 911 communications, and fiscal management.

Jackson was named Chief of Police on Feb. 14, 2012. He replaced interim chief Dave Young, who took over in July of 2012 when former chief Gary Hampton accepted a post at the Tracy Police Department.

Jackson has served with the Turlock Police Department since 2007, and was a captain prior to his promotion. He also ran for Stanislaus County Sheriff in 2010, losing to incumbent Sheriff Adam Christianson.
