The Turlock Police Department has announced a partnership with Nextdoor, a private social network for neighborhoods that uses residents to build safer communities.

The integration with Nextdoor will allow the Turlock Police Department to communicate with Turlock neighborhoods online. Residents and police will be able to work together to improve safety and strengthen neighborhood watch efforts.

“We have always invested in innovative ways to increase safety and build community- police relations,” said Crime Prevention Officer Michelle Backeroff. “With Nextdoor, we can share information and help empower neighbors to keep their communities safe and connected while giving them the ability to collaborate on virtual neighborhood watch efforts.”

With 31 Turlock neighborhoods that have started Nextdoor websites, the social network has already proven to be an essential and well-adopted tool for Turlock residents.

Turlock residents can join private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events, activities, local services, and lost pets. The Turlock Police Department will also be able to post safety tips and crime alerts to Nextdoor websites within Turlock.

Each Turlock neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website that is only accessible to residents who verify that they live in the neighborhood. Nextdoor is free for residents and neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor website. The Turlock Police Department will not be able to access residents’ websites, contact information, or content.
