Turlock Police Department to Host Citizens Police Academy

The Turlock Police Department is hosting Citizens Police Academy, beginning in September, to provide the public with information and resources within the police department.

The program will consist of a series of eleven classes and discussions held once a week, on Thursday evenings, typically from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning Sept. 10. There is no cost to anyone who enrolls.

Classes will provide an in-depth view into various areas and specialized units of law enforcement, give citizens the opportunity to learn about the issues that affect law enforcement efforts in the City of Turlock, and how to develop a partnership with the police department.

“It is the police department’s goal that upon completion of the course, participants will have a better understanding of what the police do and why, and experience improved communication and partnership between themselves and the police department,” said the Turlock Police Department in a press release.

There are over 30 presentations in this course, including Officer Recruitment & Training, Crime Scene Investigation, Police Emergency Communications Center (Dispatch), Crime Prevention, Narcotics Enforcement and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT).

There is limited space in the Citizens Academy and registration is required. The deadline to register is Sept. 1.

If you are interested in attending please contact Turlock Police Department Crime Prevention Officer Backeroff by phone at 209-656-3153 or email at mbackeroff@turlock.ca.us
