Turlock Police Growing Mustaches to Cuff Cancer

Turlock police officers will be growing out their mustaches during the month of November, however it’s not to fit a stereotype.

Every year, the Movember Foundation challenges men around the world to grow mustaches during “Movember” to spark conversation and raise funds for men’s health programs, including those for prostate and testicular cancer.

This year, the Turlock Associated Police Officers are participating in Movember and are inviting the community to join them in a variety of ways.

“Our motivation is the 1 in 7 brothers, fathers, grandfathers, and friends around the world that will be diagnosed with prostate cancer,” says the TAPO Movember team page. “We are growing or supporting a moustache to spread awareness and raise funds for this important cause.”

First, all of the Mobros can participate by joining the TAPO Movember team at MoBro.co/TAPO-Cuffs-Cancer and pledge to grow the best ‘stache you can all month.

The rules of Movember are simple if participating, just start Nov. 1 with a clean shaven face and throughout the month grow out your mustache. No beards, goatees, no fake ‘staches — let your mustache grow as best it can.

Participants are allowed to groom their mustache, but not allowed to shave it off! And, of course, participants are required to conduct themselves like true gentlemen.

The team, however, is not only a boys club, Mo Sistas are also welcome to join the team and help raise awareness and funds for men’s health.

Donations can be made to the team at TAPO’s Movember page or you can purchase a Movember t-shirt from the police union.

TAPO’s Movember team has already raised $546 as of Thursday, and November hasn’t even started yet!

T-shirts can be purchased for $15 in the Turlock Police Department front lobby or by contacting Steve Rodrigues at 209-664-7326.

“If you are unable to join our team, any donation, however small the amount is greatly appreciated! Every dollar counts!” TAPO wrote on their Facebook page. “Help us raise funds and bring awareness for men's health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer.”
