Turlock Rural Firefighters Extinguish Blaze in Abandoned Home

Turlock Rural Firefighters were able to prevent a fire at an abandoned residence from spreading to neighboring structures on Sunday morning.

The Turlock Rural Fire Department was called to the 900 block of First Street Sunday morning after Turlock police had arrived on scene and discovered the well-involved single-family home.

The first unit arrived and began an aggressive defensive attack, said the Turlock Rural Fire Department on Facebook.

Mutual aid was requested from the Turlock Fire, Denair Fire, Mountain View Fire, Keyes Fire, and Ceres Fire departments to assist with the fire.

In total, six engines, one truck, one water tender, and three chief officers responded to the fire, according to Turlock Rural Fire.

With the help of mutual aid, Turlock Rural Fire Department was able to mitigate the threat and extinguish the fire in approximately 40 minutes.

There was extensive damage to the abandoned home, but dollar estimate was not reported.

“We would like to remind the public to please be vigilant and mindful as temperatures reach peak highs. Most fires are preventable and that starts with everyone doing their part,” the Turlock Rural Fire Department said on Facebook.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the Turlock Rural Fire Department wants to remind citizens of firework safety and to only use fireworks that are legal in California.
