The body of Carlos Garcia, 19 of Turlock, was discovered on Friday at about 8:40am by a Turlock Irrigation District employee.
Carlos Garcia’s body was found floating face down near a gat in the Lateral Five canal located at S. Golden State Blvd. and Griffith Ave.
The Merced County Sheriff’s Department recovered the body. After a dive team pulled the body out of the water, no signs of foul play were found but nothing has been ruled out.
It was estimated the body was in the water for less than 24 hours.
Merced County Sheriff’s detectives are classifying the case as a death investigation. An autopsy will most likely be done next week.
