Turlock Will Have a Fourth of July Celebration, Not at CSUS

The Stanislaus County Fair Board voted to donate the fairgrounds for a fireworks show since the CSUS Fantastic Fourth Celebration has been cancelled.

After the bad news from university spokesperson Kristin Olsen that the $50,000 fireworks show would be cancelled due to budget constraints, Turlock Mayor John Lazar had said that Turlock will try to have something to continue the 20 plus year tradition.

The only alternative in the area was going to be the Stanislaus County Woodward Fireworks Celebration. A county VIP private beach party was proposed to benefit regional politicians, leaders, and business owners who may have sponsored the event. The fireworks show at Woodward will continue but the sponsor party has been called off.

The Turlock Chamber of Commerce decided to lead an effort to ensure that the Turlock community would have a community fireworks show.

After only about 5 days, a reported $22,000 in committed sponsorships were collected before even going to the Stanislaus County Fair Board.

Despite being so close to the focal use of the fairgrounds (the Stanislaus County Fair beginning on July 31st), the board agreed that this event would be good for the community and that they could pull it off.

The Fourth of July event has a budget of $35,000 for the fireworks, a kids area, live music, a sound system, lighting, labor, and marketing.

The partnership between the Turlock Chamber of Commerce and the Stanislaus County Fair is basically a rental agreement where the Chamber will be responsible for all costs while the Fair doesn’t charge for the use of the fairgrounds.

Committed sponsorships and additional sponsorships still need to be collected while all the details will start coming together and announced to the public. TurlockCityNews.com will let you know about all the updated details as soon as we get them.
