TUSD Adult School Releases Class Offerings

Want to learn about fun, interesting activities such as woodworking, how to fix your vehicle, ballroom dancing, or writing books for children? Then the Turlock Unified School District Adult School is the place for you.

The Turlock Adult School has released the Fall 2014 catalog packed with dozens of new, unique and interesting classes open to anyone in the community at reasonable registration fees (listed below).

With over 2,000 students annually TAS has a goal of serving educational needs for community learning courses, career technical education, ESL, adult basic education, high school equivalency test prep and adult high school diploma classes.

“We are hoping that as we take a look at the need of the community we can offer classes that meet those needs,” said TAS Principal Isaias Rumayor, Jr.

This fall new classes include Automobile Service ($50), Writing Books for Children (Unknown), Beginning Quilting Holiday Table Runner ($35), Simply Knit: Falling for Retro/Vintage Knits ($40).

Automotive Service is an example of the goal of Turlock Adult School, to improve community education.

“We’re hoping to help people learn basic auto service and how to do maintenance on their vehicle,” explained Rumayor. “We are fortunate enough to have the Turlock High School Automotive Instructor teaching that course.”

Community Services classes include: Basic Computer Literacy (free), Keyboarding (free), Microsoft Word, Beginning (free), Microsoft Office 2010 ($20), Accounting ($90), Anatomy and Physiology ($60), Medical Terminology ($90), Excel 2010 (free), Welding, Combination ($140), Woodworking 1 ($75), Woodworking 2 ($100), Workforce Readiness Skills (free), Citizenship (free), Conversational Assyrian, Beginning (free), Conversational Spanish ($60), Ceramics, Wheel Throwing ($80), Fashion Illusion and Makeup ($35), Genealogy and the Internet ($35), Get to Know Your Digital Camera ($45), Improve Your Reading and Writing (free), Photoshop ($45), Private Pilot Ground School ($20), Watercolor ($75), Quilting Double Star Sampler 22 by 22 inch ($40), Simply Knit Wonderful Winter Knits ($50), Ballroom Dancing ($40), Basketball ($50), Stevinson Golf ($75), Turlock Golf ($75), Yoga Level 1 ($50), and Zumba Fitness ($50).

For adults who are looking to earn their high school diploma TAS offers evening classes at Turlock High School in courses such as Algebra 1, American Government and Economics, Biology, Criminal Justice, Wood Construction, Pre-Algebra, CAHSEE Prep, Psychology, English Comp & Lit, English Review, Math Review, Earth Science, U.S. History, World History and all subjects classes. 180 credits are needed to graduate with TAS and concurrent enrollment is available.

English as a Second Language classes are also available at various locations and times.

Registration is open to anyone 18 years and older and you do not need to be a Turlock resident. Concurrently enrolled high school students may voluntarily enroll in classes required for a high school diploma.
