TUSD Board Meets Tuesday

The Turlock Unified School District will hold its first public Board of Trustees meeting since a holiday break at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 7, in the District Professional Development Center at 1100 Cahill Ave.

The meeting will kick-off with an inspiration and flag salute from Dutcher Middle School eighth-graders Neema Rashidi and Felisha Dias, who are this month’s Character Counts Award recipients for fairness.

Following the flag salute the board will recognize and congratulate 13 staff members from district schools for being nominated for Stanislaus County’s “Employees Making a Difference” award.

In an action item, the board will vote to adopt a resolution to approve TUSD Heart Day. From Jan. 19 to Feb. 12 of this year schools will raise funds through coin jar donations, wrist band sales and t-shirt sales of which every $800 raised will be used to send a child with heart disease to Camp Taylor, a summer camp for children with heart disease.

The board will also hear an overview of the 2012-13 financial audit report from CPA firm Goodell, Porter, Sanchez & Bright.

On the consent calendar the board will vote to approve several donations including a Civil War and World War II historical book collection donation from Mark de la Motte in an amount valued at $500 to the Turlock High School Social Studies Department, a $1,000 donation from David Hankal Farming to the Turlock High School Girls' Golf team, and a 3D printer kit and supplies at a donor appraised value of $1,005 from Mr. Robert C. Hallinan to the Turlock High School Electronics Class.

Also on the consent calendar the board will vote to approve numerous personnel services contracts for student educational assemblies, classes and school dances.

Later, TUSD fiscal services will provide information on the 2014-15 budget calendar and business services will provide information for final approval of the Wakefield Elementary School Modernization Project.
