TUSD to Hold First Board of Trustees Meeting of School Year

The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees will hold its first major public meeting of the 2014-15 school year Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the TUSD Professional Development Center, 1100 Cahill Ave.

Following a brief inspiration by Director of Human Resources Jason Maggard, the board will recognize members of the class of 2014 who completed their high school studies over the summer.

A period of public discussion is scheduled after. Speakers are limited to a maximum of three minutes each and no more than 30 minutes is designated for public comment.

On the consent calendar the board will receive three donations: $500 to the Turlock High School baseball team and $1,000 to the THS boy’s soccer team from Winton, Ireland, Strom & Green, and $2,000 from Denele Analytical Inc. for the THS football team.

There are also numerous personnel service contracts for K-8 eCademy home school students including physical education and extracurricular classes such as yoga, music, karate and gymnastics.

Also the board will vote to approve services agreements with the Turlock Police Department for two full-time school resource officers, one at Pitman and one at THS ($102,916 per officer), as well as ambulance services with American Medical Response ($11,021) for PHS and THS football games.

Scheduled for 7:35 p.m., Maggard will again address the board to update TUSD’s Strategic Plan.

TUSD Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Dana Trevethan will address the board with information on the Common Core Implementation Plan and its progress.

Later the board will hear information from TUSD Superintendent Sonny Da Marto about updates to the attendance policy with Assembly Bill 97 (2013) concerning discipline and procedures for student absences, as well as a host of other policies including tobacco, advanced placement, employee notification, parental notification, class sizes, student assessment, test integrity/ preparation, and bullying by means of electronic means even if off campus in accordance with AB 256 (2013).
