At about 4:22pm Friday, Turlock Police Officer Lupe located an occupied stolen vehicle at Walmart in the 2100 block of Fulkerth Road.

With the assistance of additional officers, a high-risk stop was conducted where the vehicle’s three occupants were detained at gunpoint.

An animal control officer was also requested to the scene due to an aggressive dog.

Lupe identified the three, including driver Daniel Barbee, 32, of Turlock, and passenger Nicholas Tyler, 38, of Modesto.

When Lupe had his dispatcher run the three, he discovered that Barbee was on probation for receiving a stolen vehicle, while Tyler had a $7,000 misdemeanor bench warrant out of Modesto for theft and possession of methamphetamines.

Barbee and Tyler were both arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, Barbee on charges of auto theft, receiving a stolen vehicle, and violation of probation, and Tyler on his warrant.

Barbee’s second passenger was released.

The vehicle was released to its rightful owner who responded to the scene. It wasn’t burned, stripped, or wrecked, however, it was full of garbage.
