Two arrested after random shots fired in busy downtown early Saturday morning

On Saturday, May 28th, 2022, at 1:36 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported weapon offense that had just occurred at the intersection of W Main St and N Broadway, Turlock, after a subject in a vehicle had fired off random shots in the area and then fled.

As officers arrived on scene, witnesses gave them a description of the suspect vehicle, a gray Chevrolet SUV, and of the suspects in the vehicle, two black male adults.

Officers began checking the area, and a few minutes later, an officer checking S Golden State Blvd heading out of town spotted a matching vehicle driving erratically about to get onto southbound State Route 99.

Additional officers responded and conducted a high risk stop, removing three subjects from the vehicle at gunpoint and detaining them in handcuffs to further investigate. All three subjects were identified, two of which were Eshan Bowers, 28, of Merced, and Shannon McDow, 29, of Atwater.

Officers had their dispatcher run all three subjects and Bowers returned with a misdemeanor warrant out of Tuolumne County. Bowers was arrested and a search of his vehicle incident to arrest was conducted. The search led to the discovery of two handguns, one that Bowers should have had access to and one that McDow should have had access to. Further investigation revealed that the firearm that McDow had access to was the one used in the shooting. McDow was arrested.

Both subjects were booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, Bowers on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a loaded firearm and his warrant, and McDow on charges of carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.

No injuries were reported.
