On Monday, April 10th, 2023, at 11:15 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported shoplifting that had just occurred at Kohl’s, 2751 Countryside Dr, Turlock, after a man had exited the business with unpaid merchandise.
While officers were responding, they received information that the suspect, later identified as Steven Sawyer, 32, of Turlock, had walked to a maroon 2006 Chrysler Town and Country in the parking lot.
Officers arrived on scene and located the maroon Town and Country, however, it was occupied by two women, not Sawyer. One of the two women was identified as Ashlee Deminsky, 26, of Denair.
One officer stayed with Deminsky, who they’ve had previous dealings with, while another went to go look for Sawyer. Sawyer was located nearby and detained.
Officers reviewed surveillance camera video which showed Deminsky and Sawyer both in the business selecting merchandise. The two then separately exited the business, Sawyer with his unpaid merchandise, however, Deminsky without. The two then met up together at the maroon Town and Country but Sawyer eventually walked away.
Both Deminsky and Sawyer were arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, Deminsky on charges of conspiracy, attempted theft, and violation of probation, and Sawyer on charges of shoplifting, conspiracy, and violation of probation.
