Two arrested in embezzled rental vehicle early Friday morning

On Friday, August 26th, 2022, at 12:34 am, a Turlock Police officer near Avena Bella Apartments, 500 W Linwood Ave, Turlock, observed a moving vehicle which he recognized and knew to be stolen, so he made a traffic stop on it.

The vehicle pulled into the apartment complex and stopped, where a high risk stop was conducted and both of its occupants were detained at gunpoint.

The officer identified the pair as Emilio Martinez Lopez, 40, of Turlock, and Destany Binda, 27, of Modesto. Lopez was the driver while Binda was his passenger.

The officer had his dispatcher run both subjects and they both returned with warrants. Lopez had a misdemeanor $8,000 warrant out of San Bernardino County for possession of methamphetamines and possession of drug paraphernalia, while Binda had a local misdemeanor $6,300 warrant for the same charges.

A subsequent search led to the discovery of ammunition, methamphetamines, and drug paraphernalia.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the vehicle was a rental which had not been returned when it was due.

Both subjects were arrested, Lopez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of auto theft, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and possession of methamphetamines, as well as his warrant, while Binda was released on a citation on her warrant.
