On Wednesday, April 5th, 2023, at 2:57 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle collision at a residence in the 1100 block of Tawny Ln, Turlock.

When officers arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved. The first was a 2017 Toyota Yaris and the second was a tan 1992 Chevrolet GMT400.

The Yaris had two occupants, driver Edgar Ceballos, 22, of Turlock, and passenger Evelyn Castro, 19, of Los Angeles, while the tan GMT400 had been parked and unoccupied. Ceballos was uninjured, however, Castro suffered minor injuries.

While speaking with Ceballos, officers noticed that he was displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence, so they asked him if he would be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. Ceballos agreed and completed the tests.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that Ceballos was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested. It was then discovered that he had a $10,000 misdemeanor bench warrant out of Merced for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, driving with a suspended driver’s license due to a DUI conviction, and driving a vehicle without both of its license plates attached.

Castro was also determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was unable to care for herself, so she too was arrested.

Both Ceballos and Castro were transported to a local hospital where they were medically cleared.

Afterward, they were booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, Ceballos on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury to another person, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater causing bodily injury to another person, and driving with a blood alcohol content of .01% or greater while on DUI probation, as well as his warrant, and Castro on the charge of public intoxication.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred, however, the Yaris had struck the tan GMT400 and a stop sign before going up onto the curb, into a front yard, and striking the retaining wall of a residence.
