On Saturday, February 5th, 2022, at 2:59 am, a Turlock Police officer observed a vehicle violating the California Vehicle Code near Dollar General Market, 965 Lander Ave, Turlock, so he made a traffic stop on it.
The officer made contact with the vehicle’s driver, whose identity is currently unknown, and noticed that he was exhibiting symptoms of being intoxicated. The officer pulled the subject out of his vehicle and put him through standardized field sobriety tests, the results of which gave the officer probable cause to effect an arrest.
The subject was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving while intoxicated. His vehicle was authority towed away from the scene.
Less than half an hour later, at 3:26 am, another officer observed another vehicle violating the California Vehicle Code near the intersection of W Main St and West Ave S, so he made a traffic stop on it.
The officer made contact with that vehicle’s driver, who identified himself as Jose Rojas Gomez, 27, of Turlock. The officer noticed that Gomez was also exhibiting symptoms of being intoxicated, so he pulled him out of his vehicle and put him through standardized field sobriety tests. The results of those tests gave the officer probable cause to effect an arrest.
Gomez was arrested and released on a citation on charges of driving while intoxicated. His vehicle was also authority towed away from the scene.
Recently, there has been a spike in DWI arrests in town and it is not uncommon to arrest several people for it during the same night. The cause for the spike is unknown.
If you plan on going out and drinking, please take a designated driver with you. If you are unable to find one, please call a ride share service or taxi. Spending an average of $8 for an in-town Uber ride is much better than spending over $10,000 on fines and fees for getting a DWI. The DMV also automatically suspends your license for a minimum of four months in an admin per se and you run the risk of injuring or killing someone if you get involved in a collision. If you kill someone as a result of DWI, you could be charged with a Watson Murder.
