Two suffer major injuries after vehicle strikes tree and overturns Saturday night

On Saturday, November 19th, 2022, at 9:06 pm, the California Highway Patrol, Denair Fire Protection District, Turlock Rural Fire Protection District, Keyes Fire Protection District, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries on N Gratton Rd just south of Underhill Rd, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a single vehicle involved, a Chevrolet pickup truck, which had overturned and was on its roof.

The vehicle had two occupants, driver Damon Feery, 24, of Turlock, and passenger Katelynn Delao, 25, of Turlock. Both suffered major injuries and were ground transported by American Medical Response to local hospitals after having to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters.

The vehicle sustained major damage and was deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring it to be towed away.

Officers began investigating and determined that the vehicle was heading southbound on N Gratton Rd from Underhill Rd, when for an unknown reason, Feery turned it to the left and caused it to leave the roadway from the east edge. The front of the vehicle struck a tree stump and it continued in a southerly direction before striking a tree, overturning, and coming to final rest facing a northwesterly direction.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the collision. Both of the vehicle’s occupants stated that they were wearing their seatbelts and Feery stated that he was not on his phone when the collision occurred.
