On Sunday, January 15th, 2023, at 10:42 pm, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of N Walnut Rd and W Monte Vista Ave, Turlock, observed a driver fail to stop at a red traffic signal, so he attempted to make a traffic stop on him, however, the driver failed to yield to the officer and a pursuit ensued.

The vehicle’s driver, later identified as Tunet Taryorn, 38, of Turlock, drove southbound on N Walnut Rd, westbound on W Tuolumne Rd, and then southbound on N Golden State Blvd.

As Taryorn approached W Syracuse Ave, he began to slow his vehicle down, made a westbound turn, and stopped.

With the assistance of additional officers, a high risk stop was conducted and the vehicle’s three occupants were removed at gunpoint, including Taryorn and a man later identified as Saymon Safargavlan, 38, of Turlock.

The pursuit lasted about two minutes, covered a distance of about two miles, and reached a top speed of about 65 miles per hour.

When officers had their dispatcher run the three, they discovered that Taryorn and Safargavlan had warrants. Taryorn had two misdemeanor bench warrants out of Tuolumne County, the first one was a $5,000 one for failure to appear and the second one was a $30,000 one for falsely identifying to a peace officer, possession of methamphetamines, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to appear, while Safargavlan had two $2,000 misdemeanor warrants, the first one bench warrant out of Ceres for possession of a controlled substance and the second one was a local warrant of arrest for theft.

Taryorn and Safargavlan were both arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, Taryorn on the charge of flight from a peace officer as well as his warrants, and Safargavlan on his warrants.
