The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department served search warrants at both Turlock Pop-N-Cork locations Monday morning.

The search warrants are related to an ongoing homicide investigation.

Law enforcement was seen coming in and out of the Pop-N-Cork locations at 1190 East Ave. and 3801 Crowell Rd., wearing plain clothes and driving what appeared to be undercover vehicles.

“This is an active investigation and no information is being released on the case at this time,” said Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Keith Rakoncza.

Witnesses at the East Avenue location said they were told the search is related to the Korey Kauffman case, a Turlocker whose body was found in the Stanislaus National Forest in Aug. 2013. Kauffman’s death was deemed suspicious by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department at the time.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department served a search warrant in the 1100 block of East Avenue on Feb. 26, also related to an undisclosed homicide case. Neighbors also said they were told it was related to Kauffman’s death.

Kauffman went missing in March 2012, shortly after he left his home in the 1300 block of Lander Avenue. Kauffman’s life was allegedly threatened the day before he went missing. A man allegedly chased Kauffman in a car, attempting to run him over, before saying “when I catch you I’ll cut you ear to ear,” after the two had an argument over money. At the time, authorities said they had interviewed the man “extensively,” and he was not a suspect.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department has not confirmed that either search is related to Kauffman.
