Unknown cause fire breaks out in apartment late Monday evening

On Monday, December 14th, 2020, at approximately 7:25 pm, the Turlock Fire Department received a call of a working structure fire at the Boardwalk Apartments located at 900 W Zeering Rd. Battalion 4, Engine 31, Squad 32, Engine 33, and Engine 34 were dispatched along with Ceres Battalion 3 and Ceres Engine 15. Neighbors who reported the fire forced entry into the apartment with a garden hose in an attempt to keep the fire knocked down until fire crews could arrive.

Engine 34 arrived on scene at approximately 7:30 pm. Captain 34 reported smoke showing from a second story apartment and put Engine 34 in the investigation mode. Crews quickly discovered that there was an active fire in the apartment and transitioned into fire attack in the offensive strategy. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished shortly thereafter, preventing any further damage or any injuries.

Once the fire was brought under control, Ceres units were released from the scene and reassigned to provide coverage in the north end of the city while Turlock units were still on scene conducting overhaul and other various activities. Turlock Rural Fire Protection District also provided coverage in the south end of the city.

The Fire Marshal responded to conduct an investigation. No cause has yet been determined. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Fire Marshal Mark Gomez at 209-669-2119 or by email at MGomez@turlock.ca.us.
