At about 1:17am Friday morning, Officer Marquez observed a vehicle going southbound in the northbound lanes of Geer Road from Almond Avenue at normal speeds, as if he wasn’t doing anything wrong.

Coincidentally, Turlock City News was right there when this happened and caught it on dashcam video.

Marquez followed the vehicle to the 800 block of Geer Road, where he made a traffic stop on it after it pulled into an alleyway.

Marquez contacted and identified the driver of the vehicle, Christian Garces, 39, of Turlock, who was determined to be unlicensed.

Garces displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence and was put through standardized field sobriety tests, which he performed poorly on.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, Marquez determined that Garces was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him.

Garces was then asked what implied consent chemical test he wanted to submit to, and he chose breath. The breath sample indicated that Garces had a blood alcohol content of about .12%.

Garces was released on a citation on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, and driving a vehicle to the left of a diving section which separates two or more opposing lanes of traffic.

Garces was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order and his vehicle was impounded.

Great work, Officer Marquez!
