Unoccupied home goes up in flames Tuesday morning

On Tuesday, May 17th, 2022, at 9:47 am, the Turlock Fire Department, Modesto Fire Department, Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District, Turlock Rural Fire Protection District, Denair Fire Protection District, and Keyes Fire Protection District were dispatched to a reported residential working structure fire in the 4400 block of W Main St, Turlock.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they located a single story single family dwelling fully involved.

The fire was rapidly extending into an adjacent field and trees, as well as high voltage power lines with an actively arcing electrical wire on the ground. Due to this, firefighters chose to work in the defensive strategy, which means they will fight the fire from the outside and prevent it from spreading to anything else around.

Ultimately, with the assistance of a few water tenders due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, the fire was put out and kept contained to the structure and some vegetation surrounding the property.

Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period of time conducting overhaul, investigation, and other post fire activities.

The Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigations Unit responded to the scene to investigate the fire, American Medical Response responded to the scene to provide firefighter care, the Turlock Irrigation District and Pacific Gas and Electric responded to the scene to secure utilities, and the Turlock Police Department responded to the scene to provide traffic control, while the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District and Turlock Rural Fire Protection District provided city coverage for the duration of the incident.

The structure was unoccupied and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigations Unit at 209-525-5537.
