Vehicle collision declared mass casualty incident after seven injured Sunday evening

On Sunday, October 2nd, 2022, at 5:28 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, Modesto Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of N Olive Ave and Hartwick Ave, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved. The first one was a black Honda sedan and the second one was a blue Hyundai hatchback.

There were a total of seven people involved, one of which suffered major injuries, four of which suffered moderate injuries, and two of which suffered minor injuries. The one who suffered major injuries was air transported by CALSTAR Air Medical Services to a local hospital, while the rest were ground transported by American Medical Response to local hospitals.

Both vehicles sustained major damage and were deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring them to be towed away.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred, however, a person claiming to be a witness commented on a Facebook post stating that she had seen both vehicles racing prior to the collision.
