Veterans Celebrate With Memorial Day Barbeque

Adam Lazaro

After honoring fallen servicemen on Memorial Day this morning, local veterans and their families came together for a community barbeque.

Veterans and families had the opportunity to participate and watch the Memorial Day Service at  Turlock Memorial Park & Funeral Home. After the service ended, the VFW continued their efforts in honoring and celebrating the memory of the servicemen who died.

Commission of the American Legion Rex Ish Post 88 Gunner Bruce and Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5059 Mike Seward were both in attendance at the service and were also present at a barbeque held after the service at the VFW Post.

This barbeque is an annual event that is hosted every Memorial Day weekend by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5059 Turlock, the American Legion Rex Ish Post 88, and Disabled American Veterans. The barbeque is done to honor and celebrate the memory of the fallen American comrades at the Turlock VFW post.

Seward expected to get around 150 people in attendance for the barbeque. Veterans barbequed chicken for hungry attendees and even provided water slides for the kids.

The VFW Chaplain Bonny Renteria spoke at a ceremony blessing the falling veterans. The barbeque offers good food and opportunity the honor the comrades that have been lost.
