Turlock police spent Thursday night searching for suspects of a carjacking that turned out to be a false report.

Turlock police responded to the 4700 block of Golden State Blvd. on the report of a carjacking at approximately 11:26 p.m.

The victim told police he had been “jumped” by two men while he was pulled over, and the two suspects had taken his vehicle, said Turlock police spokesperson Lt. Miguel Pacheco.

Officers searched the area, and were able to locate the vehicle in the embankment of the northbound Highway 99 on-ramp at Taylor Road.

At this time, the officers set up a perimeter in the area and began to search for the suspects. They were unable to locate anyone, said Lt. Pacheco.

During the investigation, the victim admitted to California Highway Patrol officers on scene that he had wrecked his vehicle and fabricated the story of the carjacking. CHP took the accident report, said Lt. Pacheco.

The “victim” was not arrested, but the case was sent Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office to review the false report.
