ROHNERT PARK — The No. 12 ranked Sonoma State Seawolves had three different goal scorers Friday and their scary defense held the Warriors to just three shots in a 3-0 California Collegiate Athletic Association shutout on Halloween.
The win clinches the CCAA North Division title for Sonoma State moves the Seawolves’ overall record to 16-2-2 and 10-1-2 in the CCAA. The Warriors fall to 3-12-1 overall and 2-11-0 in the CCAA. The Seawolves already clinched a spot in the CCAA championship tournament entering the weekend.
They are currently ranked No. 2 in the west region behind national No. 4 Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Sonoma State dominated all aspects of the game Friday. They outshot the Warriors 21-3 and took eight corner kicks to Cal State Stanislaus’ three.
Warrior goalkeeper Javier Rosales picked up four saves on the day.
Sonoma State began the scoring in the 26th minute when Scott Preckwinkle put the ball in off a corner kick from Eric Lafon. Jack Jones also got in on the assist to put the Seawolves up 1-0.
Lafon would assist on another goal in the first half, this time feeding the ball to Davide Furtado who scored to put the Seawolves up 2-0. The score would stay that way to halftime. The Warriors got off just one shot during the first half, a ball from Bladimir Murillo that went wide.
Lafon and Sonoma State would seal the deal with nine minutes to play when Lafon took another corner kick and Ben Langwith was able to put it in with a header to put the Seawolves ahead 3-0. The Warriors managed two more shots in the second half, but both were saved by Sonoma State goalkeeper Brook Johnson.
The Warriors will play their final game of the season at 2 p.m. Sunday with a road game in Arcata against Humboldt State.
