“Weird Al” to Play Stanislaus County Fair

“Weird Al” Yankovic

The Stanislaus County Fair may already be known as a place to “Eat It” and get “Fat.”

But the Fair will also become an “Amish Paradise” this summer, as legendary parody musician “Weird Al” Yankovic will perform at the Stanislaus County Fair.

“‘Weird Al’ Yankovic is hilarious and we are so excited to have him on our free stage this year,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “He will bring wit and an outrageous mix of lyrics from popular songs for a humorous night.”

Yankovic will play at 8:30 p.m. July 13 on the Budweiser Free Variety Stage. The concert is free with the price of fair admission.

The accordion-playing “Weird Al” rose to prominence after growing up near Los Angeles and attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he majored in architecture and worked as a disk jockey at the university radio station. In 1979 Yankovic sent his first parody, “My Bologna,” to novelty radio host Dr. Demento, who played the song on the radio.

Since then, Yankovic has earned four Grammy Awards, six platinum records, and four gold records. His 2006 album “Straight Outta Lynwood” reached the top ten on Billboard charts, as did his single “White & Nerdy” from the album. The 2011 album “Alpocalypse” also reached the Billboard top 10.

Other Weird Al hits include “Eat It,” “Amish Paradise,” “Fat,” “Smells Like Nirvana,” “Gump,” “The Saga Begins,” “Yoda,” “Perform This Way,” and “Like a Surgeon.”

The Turlock show will feature a selection of Yankovic's hit songs as well as constant costume changes, accompanying video clips of parodies, and a healthy share of “Weird Al's” patented brand of comedy.

Yankovic also wrote and starred in the feature film “UHF” and the television show “The Weird Al Show.”

The 2013 Stanislaus County Fair opens July 12 for a 10-day run. Discounted admission tickets, unlimited ride wristbands, and the Fair season pass will go on sale beginning May 4.
