On Saturday, July 9th, 2022, at 5:31 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported disturbance in progress at 99 Cents Only Stores, 701 N Golden State Blvd, Turlock.

When officers arrived on scene, they met with store employees and learned that a woman, later identified as Shannon Hayes, 45, of Turlock, had attempted to leave the business with a shopping cart full of unpaid merchandise. As she was confronted by employees, she pushed the cart into one of them, abandoned the cart, and fled the area on foot.

A short time later, other officers located Hayes a few blocks away and made contact with her because she matched the description of the suspect. Store employees, including the one that had a shopping cart pushed into them, were able to positively identify Hayes as the suspect.

Hayes was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempted robbery.
