Woman arrested after robbing Cost Less Wednesday evening

On Wednesday, June 8th, 2022, at 5:10 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported robbery at Cost Less Food Company, 255 W Main St, Turlock.

The reporting party and manager of the business stated that the responsible female, Sonya Muzquiz, 31, of Turlock, and a male subject were last seen walking together westbound on W Main St. A police lieutenant in the area spotted them walking in the same direction in the 400 block of W Main St. He let patrol officers know who eventually caught up with both of them and detained them for further investigation.

The victim was contacted and reported that while she was at the cash registers, she spotted Muzquiz walking out of the business with a bag of steaks that she did not pay for. The manager was advised of this and Muzquiz was confronted after she had left the business. While the victim was recovering the stolen property, Muzquiz assaulted her and walked away, turning petty theft, a misdemeanor, into robbery, a felony.

The male subject who was detained with Muzquiz was determined to have not been involved in the robbery, so he was released.

Muzquiz was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of robbery as well as a misdemeanor warrant that she had.
