Woman rushing to burning home crashes Monday night

On Monday, February 6th, 2023, at 8:33 pm, the Turlock Rural Fire Protection District, Denair Fire Protection District, Keyes Fire Protection District, Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigations Unit, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported structure fire at a residence in the 1500 block of S First St, Turlock.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy fire at the rear of the residence.

Firefighters quickly began fire attack and were able to eventually bring the fire under control and extinguish it.

Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period of time after the fire was out conducting overhaul, investigation, and other post-fire activities.

At 8:37 pm, while all this was happening, two of the residents were rushing to get to their burning home when they collided with a tree due to their speeds at the T-intersection of Golf Rd and E Glenwood Ave. The two only suffered minor injuries and then ran to the fire, leaving their vehicle behind.

The Turlock Police Department responded and investigated the collision, however, due to the totality of the circumstances, will not be pursuing the hit-and-run.

The Turlock Irrigation District and Pacific Gas and Electric Company responded to the scene to secure utilities, while the Hughson Fire Protection District provided coverage to Turlock Rural, Denair, and Keyes’s fire districts.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
