Turlock High School custodian Dennis Baer is retiring after working for the Turlock Unified School District for 37 years.
Baer began his career as a substitute custodian for one year, but he was then hired full-time and worked at Brown Elementary for two years, Wakefield and Crowell for two years, Turlock Junior High School for 15 years and then Turlock High School for the last 17 years.
TUSD Director of Maintenance and Operations Scott Richardson had high praise for Baer.
“The greatest attribute that Dennis brought to the THS campus is that he was willing to do anything,” said Richardson. “It didn’t matter if it was digging a trench, running a noisy piece of equipment all day long or working late hours to secure the site, Dennis had a willing attitude and always stepped up to the plate to help.”
“Dennis came to work for me at THS in 1997 and we immediately hit it off and Dennis became my go to guy for all projects which required toughness.”
Baer was known for his sense of humor and his love of a cold ice chest full of Coca-Cola on long work projects.
Best of luck as you move into retirement Dennis and get ready to work on that “honey-do” list!
