CSU Stanislaus College of the Arts Forum Series Presents “Sounds of Desire”

The College of the Arts Forum Series is pleased to present award winning Iraqi-American playwright and performer Heather Raffo in Sounds of Desire on Tuesday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the University Mainstage Theatre. This special one-night only performance is hosted in celebration of Women’s History Month.

Sounds of Desire features selections from the internationally recognized, award winning play 9 Parts of Desire by Raffo. Together with musician Amir ElSaffar, Raffo presents a theatrical portrait of the extraordinary (and ordinary) lives of a cross-section of Iraqi women: a sexy painter, a radical Communist, doctors, exiles, wives and lovers. This work delves into the many conflicting aspects of what it means to be a woman in the age-old war zone that is Iraq. The work is an unusually timely meditation on the ancient, the modern and the feminine in a country overshadowed by war.

The Mainstage Theatre and Box Office are located in the Drama Building on the CSU Stanislaus campus at One University Circle in Turlock. Tickets are available at the Box Office, University Bookstore and at the door one hour before show time. Tickets are $30 for general admission, $25 for seniors and CSU faculty/staff, and $10 for students. Student-priced tickets are limited.

Parking is free during the event only in Lot 2. See the University’s Web site for maps and directions at: http://www.csustan.edu/directories/Maps/. For ticket information please contact the Theatre Box Office at (209) 667-3166.
