CSUS Young Writers Workshop For 5th – 8th Grade Students, Registration Open

TURLOCK Registration is open for the 15th annual Young Writers Workshop of the Great Valley Writing Project (GVWP) at California State University, Stanislaus scheduled for July 8-22.

The 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday program sponsored by the Great Valley Writing Project (GVWP) offers fifth through eighth grade students the opportunity to explore their writing interests, build writing strengths, and learn more about the craft of writing. Students receive in-depth writing instruction, structured writing workshop time, interaction with visiting writers and journalists, flexibility in writing assignments, and daily opportunities to share writing with peers.

Working with experienced teachers, children enjoy creative writing on a college campus culminating with a memorable anthology. Parents can choose a supervised overnight stay in the University’s student housing and a swim party for their children at no additional cost. The $250 registration fee covers all class materials and activities.

Instructors Kaye Osborn and Casey Giffen have previously worked with the GVWP. Osborn is a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing at Lakewood Elementary School in Modesto, and Giffen teaches at Modesto’s Glick Middle School.

To enroll, contact the Great Valley Writing Project office at (209) 667-3490. More information is available on the Web at www.csustan.edu/gvwp, or by calling Kaye Osborn at 571-1275.

The Great Valley Writing Project at CSU Stanislaus is an affiliate of the National Writing Project, based at UC Berkeley. The program’s network of K-16 educators work with teachers, students, and parents in Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Calaveras, and Tuolumne counties to improve the teaching of writing.
