Denham Nominates Two Turlock Students for Military Academies

|

U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) has nominated two Turlock students to attend America's military service academies.

The two students from Turlock are Jonas Trevethan of Turlock High School, and Alex Rodin of Pitman High School. Trevethan is seeking appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and Rodin is seeking appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy.

In total, Denham nominated 19 students from cities across California's 10th District to four of the nation’s five prestigious military academies.

“These exceptional young people exhibit great character and dedication to serving our country,” Denham said. “It is an honor to have the privilege of nominating them to our esteemed military academies. Their desire to join our military forces is inspiring, and I commend each of them for their hard work to reach this point in the process.”

Each student seeking to attend a military academy must be nominated by a U.S. Representative, Senator or the Vice President.

Nominees are selected through a rigorous application and interview process. They are chosen based on factors such as academic achievement, leadership ability, physical aptitude, participation in extra-curricular activities and demonstration of character.

Academy students commit to serve the military for a minimum of five years of active duty upon graduation. If accepted to attend, students will receive notice from the individual service academies in April 2014.
