Emanuel to Host Cancer Survivor’s Day Celebration

Emanuel Cancer Center will celebrate National Cancer Survivor’s Day, May 28, with free ice cream sundaes for the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Center, 880 E. Tuolumne Road.

With more people than ever surviving cancer, Emanuel wants to celebrate the ongoing fight and improving success against cancer, which has affected nearly everyone.

“National Cancer Survivors’ Day is a growing event as more people than ever are surviving the disease as a result of advances in prevention, early detection and treatment,” said Michael Iltis, executive director of Emanuel Cancer Center. “There are nearly 14 million Americans living with a history of cancer, and we want to celebrate that.”

The event is open to any cancer survivor, advocate or caregiver. Last year, nearly 500 sundaes were given out. There is no need to RSVP for the event, and sugar-free ice cream will be available.

“Basically, if cancer has touched your life, we hope you’ll come celebrate survivorship with us,” Iltis said. “There will be Dixieland jazz, free gifts, and the ice cream will be served by the outstanding physicians who work here at Emanuel Cancer Center.”
