Gas Thief Busted in Colorado, Now Back in Area

Alleged local gasoline thief Burgess Brown, aka Bird Dog, was arrested in Jefferson County, Colorado last month on a court hold.

But Brown has since been extradited to California, and is now back on local streets.

Turlock SewCreative Upholstery and U-Haul owner Eddie Dixon had numerous run ins with Brown, who allegedly stole hundreds of gallons of gasoline from Dixon’s U-Haul trucks.

In 2010 Brown was arrested for felony petty theft with priors. Then, in the summer and fall of 2013, the thefts began again at the U-Haul business on Lander Avenue. Dixon says he caught Brown committing those thefts on video.

At one point Dixon caught Brown redhanded and a vehicle chase ensued in the area of Lander Avenue, though Dixon peeled off due to dangerous speeds in a residential area.

“So long as he is breathing and walking the streets and ripping us off I am going to keep his name and face out there so everyone knows what a scumbag he is! I just want people to know he is out and he is on the streets. His last known address was on Beach Street in Hilmar and Griffith Road south of Turlock,” said Dixon. “I’m sure he will spring up somewhere. This guy is also known to steal copper from farms in Turlock, Hilmar and Los Banos.”

Dixon says Brown has been known to hang out in Turlock, Hilmar, and Delhi, as well as in San Joaquin and Tuolumne Counties.

Brown has a tattoo on his neck that reads “Red Neck.”
