Heart Attack Cause of Turlock Man’s Deadly Motorcycle Crash

Michael Mitchell, 60 Turlock, was driving a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on State Route 120 east of Grizzly Road, at approximately 25 miles an hour, when he crashed and suffered deadly injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

On July 18, 2011 at approximately 2pm, Mitchell lost control as he entered a curve in the road. As Mitchell lost control, the Harley began to overturn, causing Mitchell to be ejected.

Mitchell was airlifted to Doctor’s Hospital in Modesto as he suffered major injuries as a result of the collision. Mitchell never regained consciousness after the head trauma, and was the cause of death.

Mitchell was wearing safety equipment (a helmet) at the time the crash occurred.

At the time, CHP officials did not know the reason for Mitchell’s lost control and crash.

CHP Officer Michael Remmel released updated information on July 20, 2011, confirming that Mr. Mitchell had a heart attack prior to losing control of his motorcycle. The cause of the accident is the heart attack; however the head trauma remains the cause of death.
