Local Candidate Filing Period Closes Aug. 7

The period for local government hopefuls to declare their candidacy in the Nov. 3 Consolidated District Elections closes Aug. 7, with a few from Turlock having already filed for open seats.

Specific to Turlock, the offices up for election this November include the Stanislaus County Board of Education for Areas 3 and 4, Turlock Unified School District Trustees for Areas 1, 3, 5, and 7 (which is shared with Merced County), and Turlock Irrigation District Board Members for Divisions 1 and 4.

Currently, for TID Division 1 representative, incumbent Michael Frantz and challenger Tracy Sunde, a retired educator have filed filed to run; TID Division 4 incumbent representative Rob Santos has also filed to run.

Some Turlock Unified School District (TUSD) seats remain open, specifically Areas 3 and 7, or unchallenged with Area 1 Trustee Barney Gordon, an appointed incumbent, and Frank M. Lima, incumbent Area 5 Trustee both running unopposed for their respective seats.

Additionally, there are multiple County Board of Education seats, as well as town-specific school district and irrigation board seats up for election.

To appear on the ballot, all candidates meeting the office-specific qualifications, including incumbents, must file nomination documents by the Aug. 7 deadline. An updated and revised list of candidates who have filed their nomination documents with the County Elections office will be posted daily during this period.

“We encourage citizens to learn about this applicant process and consider becoming a candidate for office,” said Lee Lundrigan, Stanislaus County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters.

All interested parties are encouraged to visit the Stanislaus County Clerk-Recorder/Elections Office at 1021 I St., Room 101, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in downtown Modesto, or call the office at 209-525-5200, or 525-5230 for assistance in Spanish.
