Man Arrested for Kauffman Murder

After more than a two year investigation, authorities have arrested a man in connection to the Korey Kauffman murder.

Robert Lee Woody, 38, was arrested and charged with the murder of Kauffman and conspiracy to obstruct justice, according to court documents.

Woody’s last known residence, in the 1100 block of East Avenue, was searched by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team last Wednesday, Feb. 26, in what department spokesperson Sgt. Keith Rakoncza said was part of a homicide investigation.

Neighbors said officers on scene told them the search was related to the Kauffman case.

Both Pop-N-Cork locations in Turlock were also searched on Monday morning, in what Rakoncza said was related to a homicide investigation. Again, witnesses at the East Avenue Pop-N-Cork location said they were told the search was related to Kauffman’s death.

Rakoncza would not confirm that either search was related to the Kauffman case.

Kauffman went missing in March 2012, shortly after leaving his home in the 1300 block of Lander Avenue. Kauffman’s body was found by hunters in the Stanislaus National Forest in August 2012. His death was declared “suspicious” at the time.
