Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department detectives are investigating a homicide in West Turlock after Eduardo Favian Maldonado, 42, shot and killed a male victim and attempted to murder his wife.

According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, the victim and Maldonado’s wife had been working in a watermelon field near the intersection of Simmons Road and Washington Road at approximately 3:05 p.m. on Sunday. As they walked to their cars with several co-workers after a day of work, the victim and Maldonado's wife heard a car approaching them at a high speed.

When they turned around, Maldonado’s wife saw him diving his dark red Mercury directly towards them.

Maldonado began shooting at both his wife and the male victim, striking the victim and barely missing his wife.

The victim was immediately airlifted by Medi-Flight to Memorial Hospital in Modesto, where he died at approximately 8 a.m. this morning. At this point, the victim has not yet been identified.

Maldonado was seen fleeing the area, but has not been seen since. At the time of the incident he was driving a dark red or maroon 1999 four door Mercury Mystique, California license plate number 5FLX194.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department believes that Maldonado may be attempting to flee to Mexico, where he is originally from.

Maldonado is currently wanted for murder, attempted murder, and attempted corporal injury on a spouse.

As the case is still under investigation, it is unknown at this time why Maldonado was shooting at his wife and her co-worker.
