Names of Deputies Involved in Shooting of Double Homicide Gunman Released

The Turlock Police Department has released the identities of the two Merced County Sheriff’s Deputies who were involved in the shooting of Brian Hiatt, the alleged gunman in May 30’s double homicide.

Deputy Dustin Witt, a nine-year veteran of the Merced County Sheriff’s Department, and Deputy Adam Leuchner, a six-year veteran of the Merced County Sheriff’s Department, allegedly shot and killed Hiatt, Turlock police spokesperson Sgt. Stephen Webb.

Hiatt allegedly shot and killed his wife Ronda Cupit-Hiatt and her sister Lisa Dennis-Robbins shortly before 8 p.m. May 30 on the 11000 block of Lander Avenue in Merced County.

The deputies located Hiatt near the Motel 6 on the 200 block of South Walnut Road in Turlock, and shot and killed him after a confrontation around 5:20 a.m. the following morning.

It is unknown at this time what started the confrontation. The Turlock Police Department is currently investigating the officer involved shooting.
