Oakland Raiders Quarterback Derek Carr to Speak in Turlock

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will be visiting Turlock on April 20 to speak at a benefit for the Turlock Gospel Mission.

Tickets are currently available for the event, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. April 20 at Monte Vista Chapel. Tickets are $20 for general seating and $40 for preferred seating.

Carr, a second round pick of the Raiders last year, had an impressive rookie campaign for Oakland, throwing for 3,270 yards with 21 touchdowns. Before lining up under center for the Raiders, Carr played at Fresno State.

As a Christian, Carr has said his faith is the most important thing in his life, but at times that faith has been tried.

In August of 2013, during his senior year at Fresno State, Carr and his wife Heather gave birth to their son Dallas, who was born with his intestines tangled up, restricting blood flow. Some doctors did not believe baby Dallas would make it.

After three surgeries, Dallas is now healthy and Carr credits his faith for helping him through the time where he juggled football and his family.

In addition to tickets to the event, there are 20 spots available to meet Carr. For pricing and to make a reservation to meet Carr, call 209-409-4642.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Turlock Gospel Mission.
