Second Annual Love Turlock Event Approaching

Love Turlock? Thousands are expected to show just how much they do, in just two months.

Last April, approximately 1,100 Turlockers came together to participate in the first annual Love Turlock event, a service project in which members of the community volunteered to serve at various project sites.

With April approaching quickly, the second annual Love Turlock is already in the works. The event is scheduled for April 27, and many community members are already planning to attend.

Although official sign-ups have not yet started, the organization has asked those who plan to attend to, “start thinking how you can make a difference in your community.”

Last year’s projects included painting, mowing, trimming, weeding, leveling, plumbing, electrical work, planting flowers, debris removal, recycling, grocery distribution, alley clean-up, haircuts, fence repair and building, drywall installation, construction work, and various other tasks.

With over 1,000 volunteers, 65 projects, and the involvement of 16 local churches, the event was a success.

Approximately 43 tons of debris was dumped at Turlock Scavenger, 413 families received grocery and food boxes, and over 60 free haircuts were given at a Resource Fair.

Love Turlock was created after the success of Love Modesto, which started in 2009. While Turlock also had their own smaller version of the service project formerly called Servolution, offered through New Life Christian Center, Pastor Dave Larson said that he wanted to expand the project into the community so that others who did not attend New Life could participate as well.

“I always tell people that we do this one day together, so that we realize what’s possible the other 364 days of the year when we serve those that we come in contact with,” said Pastor Larson following last year’s success.

Sign-ups are expected to begin soon, and can be completed online at www.loveturlock.com.
